The response to the James O'Keefe "scandal" cracks me up.
It's quite simple really.
When a Conservative breaks the law, other Conservatives turn on them. Liberals see this and then ask why in the world Conservative would turn on one of their own.
Well, I don't know. Probably because they broke the effing law?
It's all so telling, isn't it? Liberals and liberal organizations who break the law aren't turned on by their supporters. (Oh, hey there, ACORN. What? No, I wasn't talking about you! Stop eavesdropping... Oh. This is James O'Keefe? Yeah, sorry. Can't bail you out. Call yo momma.)
We certainly can all agree that black people who break the law are not turned on by other blacks. (Maybe social stigma would be good for lowering violence? Just a thought.)
But Conservatives generally have a very healthy respect for the law - even those they adamantly disagree with. I don't know that I could honestly say that I think Liberals have a respect for the law. Which is also funny because the Left is always so set on writing more of them...
Thoughts from a half-black, bleeding-heart, right-leaning, recently converted liberal.

You have observed correctly.
When Republicans make a public ass of themselves, they resign. When Democrats do so, they deny and delay and accept only faint admonition.
Mark Foley, a Republicans, was caught making inappropriate comments to an adult Congressional intern. He was forced to resign.
Jerry Studds, a Democrat, was caught having sex with underage interns. He was merely censured by Congress and he turned his back while the censure was being read.
Barney Frank, a Democrat, had a teenage gay prostitution ring being run out of the basement of his home. He not only got away with claiming he knew nothing about it, he received no punishment for it.
Trent Lott, a Republican, lost his role as Senate Minority Leader for simply making flattering remarks about an old man on his birthday. Meanwhile Chris Dodd retained his committee chairmanship after a sweetheart deal from a company his committee regulated. And you already know the story about Charlie Rangel.
There is a double-standard of conduct and punishment. For Republicans, misconduct is greeted with scorn, shame, and contempt. For Demon Rats, it's a badge of honor from their constituents!
